Lancaster City are hoping to bring in up to three new players this week.

The Dolly Blues have identified targets and expect to announce two new arrivals and hope to secure a third before the club’s next friendly at home to Penrith this Saturday, August 3.

City have already earmarked central defence as one area they would like to strengthen but director of football Mick Hoyle didn’t want to identify the players in question.

The squad will shortly be cut ahead of the start of the Evo-Stik First Division North season when Cammell Lard visit the city on Saturday, August 17.

Hoyle said: “We’re hoping to tie up a couple over the next few days.

“There’s a third we want to bring in as well and then we’re working towards a squad of 20 with one or two possibly playing in the reserves.”

Darren Peacock’s side continued their excellent pre-season form with a 1-0 win over Barrow at Giant Axe on Tuesday night thanks to Chris Liley’s goal shortly before half-time.

Hoyle said: “I don’t think Barrow played as well as they can but that’s a credit to us because we made it difficult for them and overall it was about a fair result.

“It was a step up from our other pre-season games and keeps our run going.”

Simon Wills impressed against Barrow but picked up a slight hamstring strain and will be assessed on Thursday ahead of Penrith.

The club will also make a decision on Tom Kilifin who had been due to start against the Bluebirds but was pulled out with a groin strain in the warm up.

Garry Hunter has missed the last two friendlies due to work commitments but is set to return against Penrith.

Following Penrith on Saturday, City complete their preparations for the new season with a game against a Blackburn Rovers XI at Giant Axe on Friday. August 9.

* Fans have an opportunity to ask questions of new head coach Darren Peacock at a “Meet the Manager” event in the new Giant Ax clubhouse on Monday, August 5 at 7.30pm.

All are welcome to the event which will be proceeded by a Supporters Club meeting a 6.15pm, which will also be open house.

* A team representing Lancaster City will visit Westgate Cricket Club on Sunday, August 4, for a 20 or 30 over game starting at 2pm.

There will be a bar and buffet for the match at Cross Hill Park, Powderhouse Lane.
