MORECAMBE boss Jim Bentley was full of praise for his side as they won their third successive away game in dramatic fashion.
After Kevin Ellison’s injury time strike saw the Shrimps clinch their second successive league win Bentley said: “It was a fantastic strike that was worthy of winning any game.
“When Cheltenham equalised with just a few minutes to go I thought a draw was going to be a good result.
“They were throwing everything at us and for us to win a game like that was fantastic and the best moment I have had as a manager yet.”
Ellison scored two minutes into injury time with a stunning 25-yard strike after wrestling free of Russell Penn’s challenge to give the Shrimps victory.
It was a fine way to cap an excellent game that saw both sides play some excellent football.
The game flowed from end to end from the start with Danny Carlton volleying wide and Lewis Alessandra curling an effort just past the post before Phil Jevons forced Scott Brown into a superb save from a close range header.
Cheltenham produced plenty of good play themselves however with Penn coming close to opening the scoring on 23 minutes with a long range shot that deflected off a Morecambe defender but came back off the crossbar with Barry Roche beaten.
The Morecambe keeper then did well to save from Kaid Mohamed’s close range header and Keith Lowe should have done better than direct an effort wide when unmarked at the far post.
Morecambe started the second half well with Carlton and Phil Jevons both going close before they opened the scoring just after the hour when Nick Fenton headed home an Izak Reid cross at the far post for his first Morecambe goal.
Carlton was denied a second Morecambe goal when Brown produced a fine reflex save and it looked to have been a vital block as the home side equalised with a fine Jeff Goulding strike six minutes from time from the edge of the box.
The Robins’ celebrations were short lived however as Ellison gave the Shrimps a superb victory with a memorable strike.
