CC Wanderers hosted Lancaster Rovers in this North Lancashire League Division Four league clash.
The pitch and weather were perfect for the day’s fixture, which got underway with Rovers having a lot of the ball in the first ten minute’s but posing no real threat at the CC goal.
Fifteen minutes into the game and CC started to play their possession football, passing the ball well on the deck with Baines having a chance to put CC in front, but the Rovers keeper saved it easily to keep the score at 0-0.
Twenty minutes in and John Boothroyd just headed over from eight yards out from a Baines cross, then midfielder Harwood collected the ball twenty five yards out, then found himself in front of goal with only the keeper to beat.
However, his effort was swallowed up by the Rovers keeper, who was now starting to become extremely busy.
Ten minutes from the end of the first half and Rovers broke down the centre with their forward having only Leon Devaney in goal to beat, the player went round Devaney but was brought down on the edge of the box, resulting in a free kick which was taken and soared safely over the bar.
Baines, on forty four minutes, picked up the ball on the right, put in an inch perfect cross from which Boothroyd connected to drill home from close in to give CC the lead going in to half time.
CC started to dominate in the second half, keeping Rover’s chances to a minimum with the CC defence dealing with everything that was put their way and Devaney’s distribution in goal was always a threat in getting the next attack going.
Fifty five minutes in and Boothroyd latched onto a loose ball, from which he calmly lobbed the Rovers keeper from twenty yards to make it 2-0.
Bays then replaced the injured veteran Oldfield and was quickly involved in a move that saw him brought down in the box, which resulted in a penalty.
Up stepped Boothroyd to take the spot kick, only for the Rovers keeper to make a decent save and keep it at 2-0.
Caton replaced Draycott on sixty five minutes and he made an immediate impact on the right flank, having chances himself to increase the lead, but to no avail.
Cusimano replaced Boothroyd on 70 minutes and got straight into the game with some good attacking runs down the left flank.
CC were well in control and never looked like conceeding, but should have increased their own goal tally with the chances that were being created.
The final score finished 2-0 and leave’s CC still unbeaten in the league, one of only two teams yet to lose and still top of their respected division.
