A second-half horror show saw Morecambe suffer a heavy defeat at the hands of struggling Barnet.
After taking a 1-0 lead into the second half thanks to a Jack Redshaw goal on 33 minutes the Shrimps’ defence crumbled after the break as Dani Lopez bagged a hat-trick to help the home side’s push for survival.
Luke Gambin levelled the scores on 52 minutes when he sneaked in between the hesitant Nick Fenton and Barry Roche to head home a neat Lopez chip.
Provider Lopez then turned goalscorer with two goals in three horrible minutes for Roche.
His first came after the Morecambe keeper failed to collect an Edgar Davids free kick and Lopez was on hand to score from close range after the ball was headed back across goal.
Roche’s nightmare continued a minute later when after a mix up with Will Haining he brought down Garmin for a clear penalty and was sent off.
Lopez stepped up and hammered the dead ball past substitute keeper Andreas Arestidou to give the home side a clear lead.
The on-loan Stevenage man then sealed his hat-trick four minutes from time with a close-range finish from Mark Byrne’s cross as the Shrimps’ defence opened up once again.
Redshaw fired the Shrimps into the lead on 33 minutes with a fine poacher’s goal. Roche was the provider with a long clearance that caught out the Barnet defence and Redshaw took full advantage with a superb first touch before stroking the ball past Graham Stack.
Barnet dominated much of the opening period and should have opened the scoring on 26 minutes when Lopez’s header came back off the crossbar and Davids of all people failed to score from the rebound when he headed wide from just six yards out.
Roche was by far the busier of the two keepers with two fine blocks from long-range Byrne shots and further excellent blocks from Ross Jenkins and Mauro Vilhete.
