Canadian joy for Cronshaw

THERE were two local road races on Sunday and in the first, the Kent Valley RC's 71 mile 'Bob Swailes Memorial Road Race' there was another fine performance by the riders from the Herbalife/ Wheelbase.co.uk squad with three of their riders in the top five.

It was the other Sunday event that held the most local interest though.

The second Lune RCC road race of the year was the 'Capernwray Woman's Road Race' over 53miles. The race was also one of the counting events in the British Cycling Women's National Road Race Series and incorporated the North West Women's Divisional Road Race Championships.

Results: 1 Leanne Thompson (Hewitt Racing); 2 Julie Cook (Altura RT); 3 Emma Trott (R&TC Groenewoud); 4 Anna Fischer (Maxgear RT); 5 Laura Trott (VCL); 6 Claire Thomas (Edinburgh RC); 7 Lynn Hammel (Team NCA); 8 Nicola Juniper (Glendene CC); 9 Charlotte Colclough (WielerclubHand in Hand); 10 Rachel Osborn (Maxgear RT).

n Further afield two of the group of local professional riders, Ben Greenwood and Matt Cronshaw, have been racing in Quebec, Canada from June 9 to 14 in the six day/seven stage 'Tour de Beauce' as part of the Rapha/Condor squad.

Both rode strongly throughout the race, which is classified as UCI 2.2 (category 2 stage race – Tour of Britain is UCI 2.3, Tour de France is UCI 2.HC), but the highlight must be Matt's win in Stage 4b on Friday – a 70Km criterium in Saint-Georges, beating the Australian national criterium champion in the process.
