Busy weekend for city’s young athletes

Lancaster and Morecambe Athletics Club’s junior squad had a busy weekend.

A depleted team took part in the fourth Mid-Lancs Cross Country meeting of the season in Barrow on Saturday, January 11.

Mary Hodgson was the star performer on the day for the club, notching up another great victory in the under 17 girls race, finishing more than a minute ahead of second place.

In the under 11 girls, Erin Moffat was first athlete home for the club, finishing second, with Kirsty Hamilton just behind in third.

They were well supported by Kirsty Maher in 13th, Tilly Percy 19th and Macy Hinnigan 25th.

In the equivalent boys race Thomas Dowthwaite was 20th and Jacob Preston 30th.

Emma Whitaker was second in the under 13 girls with Bryony Sharp supporting her well in 16th.

The following day the club was represented in round two of the Lancashire Sportshall Athletics Competition where 18 athletes entered events in running, jumping and throwing.

Sportshall promotes multi-skill development in a fun and competitive indoor environment for the youngsters.

Those involved were Tobi Mustapha, Liam Hinnigan, Daniel Guest, Curtis Done, Lucas Done, Eleanor Rowe, Freya Burgess, Amy Bennett, Macy Hinnigan, Daisy Langley, Holly Halton, Oliva Butcher, Amy Shaw, Olivia Robinson, Malena Wilson-Pirie, Laslo Wilson-Pirie, Bethan Twigg and Temi Mustapha.
