The Westgate Warrior didn’t face Lee Glover for the English Featherweight title at planned, but did pick up his first belt after outpointing Jamie Quinn over eight rounds for the International Masters Bronze Featherweight title in a hastily-arranged contest at the King George’s Hall in Blackburn on Saturday night.

Howard, who has guided Lowe since his days as an amateur with Lancaster Boxing Academy, said: “Just to get him back up and in the right frame of mind to box was a job in itself.

“After 12 weeks of hard training, putting everything into it, dedicating himself, only for Lee Glover not to turn up was tough.

“He couldn’t make the weight, we offered to box at the weight he was going to be and he turned that down.

“Steve (Wood, promoter) did a great job getting someone in at the last minute and he wasn’t who we wanted but fair play to him he came in and showed what a tough kid he is.

“I’m really happy with how he boxed considering how down he was yesterday.

“He was really depressed and didn’t want to fight.”

Quinn had only won one of 11 before facing Lowe but provided a tough test.

Howard said: “It wasn’t an easy night for him at all.

“Isaac gave away eight or nine pounds away in weight, he’s a lightweight and Isaac is a featherweight.

“That’s hard work for any man and he did well, he boxed well.

“He got a bit cocky at times with his hands down but boxed 95 per cent how we want him to.

“He put in a good performance I thought.”

Now attention again turns to the English title after one aborted attempt to lift the coveted belt.

Howard said: “Steve Wood is going to do his best to get him on as soon as he can for an English title.

“We don’t know who his opponent will be and he’ll have to be ready to do 10 rounds.

“We don’t know where it will be but we’re mandatory for the English title and they won’t box without us.

“We’re quite happy to box whoever it is and wherever it will be.”
