The 15-year-old lost a close split decision to Tyrese Miles from Bristol’s Barton Hill club in the 75-80kg class at the Magna Centre.

Miles had a huge reach advantage with Marshall working hard to find a way into the fight in the opening round.

Marshall roared back though and appeared to knock Miles down in the second but to the dismay of the Skerton coaches the referee failed to issue a standing count.

Having clearly won the second it was all to play for in the third and final round.

Miles, having been previously warned for use of the head, then caught Marshall low as he lifted his head but no punishment was forthcoming with the boxers battling until the final bell.

There was then huge disappointment for the Skerton club when Miles was declared the winner on a split decision.

Marshall picked up a silver medal for his efforts and is now ranked number two in the country for his age and weight.
