Isaac Lowe knows a successful first defence of his English featherweight title on Saturday night will set up a big 2016.

Morecambe’s unbeaten Westgate Warrior takes on Ryan Doyle at the Manchester Arena live on Sky Sports on the undercard of Anthony Crolla’s world title clash with Darleys Perez.

Lowe stole the show when he won the title with a ninth-round stoppage of Jamie Speight at the Leeds Arena back in September and is looking to make another statement.

The 21-year-old, 11-0 as a professional, said: “I’m going to get in there and do what I do - have a scrap and give the fans what they want.

“On the night I can promise you you’ll see an improved Isaac Lowe who will be so much better than last time.

“It’s another big night and there are some big fights in 2016 if I can get the job done.

“I’m ranked number six in Britain and I can’t look past Ryan Doyle but this is a statement fight for me.

“I’m not calling anyone out but Ryan Walsh is the British champion and there will be fights to be made.”

Plenty of observers are tipping the English title clash to be a thriller thanks to both fighters’ come-forward styles.

Most also think there is no clear favourite but Lowe is ready to prove otherwise.

The former Lancaster Boxing Academy fighter, who has spent his camp at Freedom ABC in Doncaster, said: “I did have a look at his last fight but I don’t watch too much of my opponents to be honest, I leave that to (trainers) Dave (Hulley) and Jimmy (Harrington).

“At the end of the day when I get in the ring on November 21st he’s a human being with two arms and two legs.

“I think he will come looking for a scrap. He’s tough and so am I so it should be a good fight.

“But I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve.

“A lot of people who know a bit about boxing think this is a real 50-50 fight.

“I want to prove that it isn’t and that I’m levels above him because I think I am.”

Lowe also believes his experience of big nights could be key.

Having won the belt in front of more that 10,000 against Speight there will be nearer 20,000 at the Manchester Arena for his first defence.

In the other corner Doyle, 11-1 in the paid ranks, is taking part in his first major contest having starred on small hall shows.

Lowe said: “I proved I like the big stage at the Leeds Arena and I’m going to do it again.

“Let’s see if he can thrive under pressure. Let’s see if he rises to the occasion or if it gets to him.

“I can’t wait to be out in front of 20,000 people.”
