Morecambe’s WBO and WBA champion was set to defend his titles against the Ukrainian great at the Manchester Arena on July 9.

But the self-proclaimed Gypsy King has revealed that he has sprained his ankle running in the Lake District meaning the fight will have to be put back.

Speaking in an Instagram video he said: “I’ve got a little bit of bad news for you.

“About 10 days ago I was running up in the Lake District and I went over on my ankle, sprained my ankle.

“I’ve been to the hospital, had X-rays and MRI scans and all that stuff.

“They said it’s not broken, but it’s badly sprained, so I’ve got to keep off it for six or seven weeks.

“I tried to still train a bit, had a second opinion a week later and I’ve had the same advice.

“The fight will be being postponed. Sorry to all my fans to let you all down but injuries do happen and it is one of those things.

“My apologies to everyone who has booked anything but the fight will be on as soon as possible.

“That’s all I know at this moment but the fight’s still going ahead, as soon as the ankle gets better we will reschedule.”

Morecambe’s Commonwealth featherweight champion Isaac Lowe was also due to feature on the undercard.

Fury had inflicted a first defeat on Klitschko in 11 years when he took the 40-year-old’s titles in Dusseldorf in November.

That clash had also originally been postponed after Klitschko picked up a calf strain.

It is a problem that has dogged the Morecambe giant’s career with fights against David Haye, twice, and Dereck Chisora also being hit by injuries.
