It has been a busy couple of weeks for Lancaster and Morecambe AC runners, with great turnouts from the club at local races.
At the Staveley 10k first back for the club was Maria Snell, with a tremendous effort of 43m.47 on the tough course earning her third women’s place and 31st overall.
Just a few places behind was team-mate Lauren Gora, running strongly in 44m.34, finishing fourth woman and 34th overall. Nick Higham ran well in 45m.01 to finish 39th.
Good numbers of Lancaster runners took part in the Scorton Supper Run, with the promise of a scenic course and hot-pot supper at the finish.
The 4.75 mile race was half road and half trail, making for a challenging route but Mark Gardner made light work of the course, leading the club back in an excellent time of 28m.59 to claim fourth place.
Following Mark was Kieran Cooke, with a good effort of 30m.11 to finish seventh.
Louise Goddard took fourth women’s place with a fine run of 34m.59, with Ade Goddard running well just five seconds behind in 35m.04.
There was a super turnout at the Bernard and Evelyn Elkington 80th Birthday Bash Five Mile.
Members of Lancaster and Morecambe AC were joined by large numbers from Red Rose Runners and Blackburn Road Runners to celebrate the couple’s birthday.
Leading the way for Lancaster was Jayne Perry, with a superb effort of 36m.20 placing her 31st overall out of 178 runners.
Jayne was well backed up by Louise Goddard who ran a brilliant 37m.20 to finish 34th and Christina McGuire running well in 38m.46 for 43rd place.
David Wilkinson put in a good run of 39m.02, with Zoe Hooton next in 39m.54.
Other finishers: Mark Houghton 41m.05, Carole Wilkinson 41m.30, Byron Stubbins 42m.02, Emily Stapleton 42m.15, Linda Stapleton 52m.02, Angela and Ian Mercer 55m.40 and Karen Davis 55m.51. Evelyn ran a fantastic time of 58m.02 to win the veteran 80 category, with Bernard enjoying the run alongside Red Rose team-mate Howard Henshaw in 1h.10.54.
At the Lancaster Race Series Saturday Series 5km there was a high quality field and Lancaster’s William Onek fought well to finish sixth in a super time of 15m.58, just outside his personal best.
In next was Mark Leadbetter running strongly to finish 15th in 16m.51, followed by James Dalgliesh with a good run of 17m.45 placing him 25th.
Lancaster’s women were also in good form; Hannah Bateson stormed around in an excellent 19m.03 to finish fourth woman and 40th overall and Laura Gardner ran a brilliant 20m.31 to finish 56th.
Other finishers: Joseph Twigg 17m.50, Gareth Douthwaite 20m.18, David Wilkinson 21m.33, Emily Satpleton 22m.38 PB, Laura Van Tatenhove 22m.45, Linda Stapleton 30m.14, Karen Davis 33m.05 and Richard Stapleton 34m.48.
William Onek was back in action at the Lancaster Prudent Riverside 10 mile road race, this time taking second prize with an outstanding personal best of 55m.34.
Nick Higham was next with a fine effort of 1h.12.51 in 45th, Andrew Haley 1h.15.53 finishing 55th and Michelle Macrelli in 1h.44.32.
