The Trimpell 20-mile race organised by Lancaster Race Series last weekend pulled in a field of almost 500 runners with many using the race as part of their spring marathon preparation.
It starts and finishes at Salt Ayre Leisure Centre and uses the area’s cycle paths to take the runners out towards Denny Beck.
Ian McBride of Royton Road Runners won in time of one hour, 51 minutes and 20 seconds with several Lancaster and Morecambe Athletics Club runners taking part.
Peter Twigg was the first one home in 2h.12.42 to finish 30th overall. In next was Tony Jewitt in 2h.16.50 placing him 47th, followed by Mark Holgate running well in 2h.24.36 finishing 87th and Ian Wood in 2h.43.18.
Other finishers were Lee Watson in 2h.54.31, Helena Lewis in 3h.08.21 and Julia Possener in 3h.53.40.
A number of Lancaster runners also took part in St Anne’s 10-mile race on the same day and first back was Daryl Hayton who finished a fantastic third in a field of almost 300 in 57 minutes and 43 seconds.
Louise Goddard took second veteran 45 prize with a strong run of 1.13.14 with all the Stapleton family taking part, Emily and her mother Linda finishing together in 1h.40.27 with Emily’s father Richard following them in 1h.50.13.
