A TOTAL of nine triathletes represented City of Lancaster Triathlon (COLT) last weekend.

The 2011 British Triathlon Youth and Junior Super Series is designed to bring together the best young triathlon talent from across the UK allowing them to race head to head.

Sarah Hodgson and Beau Smith travelled to Strathclyde Park, Motherwell, for the second race in the series.

Sarah, who was competing in the Youth (15/16 year old age group) made a good start and was lying sixth at the end of the 400m swim.

Although her bike skills are improving she lost a place on the 11k bike section, finishing after a confident 2.5k run in a pleasing seventh position.

Beau, competing in the combined Junior and Senior Elite race 750m swim, rode 21k and ran 5k.

An excellent swim saw Beau fourth Junior out on the road.

He continued to use his considerable experience to complete an outstanding bike section leading the Junior race by the conclusion of the bike leg.

Although he tired slightly towards the end of the run he crossed the line as fourth Junior. Unfortunately, it later emerged that a minor infringement during transition had led to him being given a time penalty – unaware of the situation he didn’t wait for the time penalty and was disqualified.
