Ten year old COLT junior Rhys Ashton won a bronze medal at the British Biathlon Championships in Solihull at the weekend and claimed the fastest run time for a 10 year old in the competition to date, clocking up an incredible 2:28.30 for his 800m run.

Competing against 54 ten year old athletes who qualified for the competition from all over the country, Rhys puts his result down to tactics he has learned from his run coach Graham Hodgson and his hard work in the pool with Carnforth Otters ASC.

This result draws a fantastic season to a close for young Rhys who also took the North West Junior Triathlon title for the 10 year old age group.

Also putting in some superb performances were 13 year old Emma Whitaker and Stephanie Driscoll taking 6th and 9th place respectively in U14 girls.

Tim Woodman (11) put in a super swim in the U12 boys, Isabelle Woodman achieved personal best times in both events and Ben Winterburn continued recent strong improvements with a personal best time for his 100m free in the U14 boys of 1:06.31.

Nine year old Jack Collet also competed in his first ever national competition.

The British Biathlon Championship concludes the season for COLT juniors that have seen impressive results in Triathlon with the club winning the North West Championship.

In addition, 18 year old Sarah Hodgson has competed for the Junior GB team and also won Gold Medal at the British Junior Aquathlon Championships with her sister Mary taking silver.

Sarah also took the Silver medal in the British Tritahlon Super Series and 12 year old Lydia Shenton won the North West Series Title for U13 girls.

In the Pentathlon arena, COLT juniors Ben Winterburn and Emma Whitaker have been selected for the English Talent Program and both Tim and Isabelle Woodman took the U13 boys and U13 girls titles within the North West Biathle Series.

COLT Juniors would like to thank all their coaches at Carnforth Otters ASC, Lancaster and Morecambe Athletics, Lancaster City Swimming and Water Polo Club and Cog Set Cycling and the generous support they have received from EDF Energy.
