Annis leads COLT team to medal haul

Twelve year old Annis Atkinson led the COLT 11 and 12 year old girls, Ffion Ashton and Amy Monkhouse to a fantastic gold, silver and bronze in the Tristar 2 race last Sunday at the Salt Ayre Junior Aquathlon.

Annis led from the pool with a nine second advantage over Ffion and held it on the run in freezing conditions to lead the girl’s home to their first triple against athletes from Carlisle Tri Juniors, Tri Team Wigan, Chester Triathlon Club and Arragons Cumbria Tri.

Also putting in superb performances in the Youth race was Mary Hodgson who won the girls category by nearly two minutes.

At the younger end, seven year old Kirsty Maher won the Tristar category, Charles Moore and Rhys Ashton claimed second and fourth places in the Tristar 1 boys race and 17 year old Alasdair Fairhurst completed his first Aquathlon finishing the Junior event in 25 min 45 sec.

Other superb performances from COLT juniors included seven year old Alex Hirst, who was second in Tristart; nine-year-old Madison Craven, sixth in Supersprint; eight year old Isaac Atkinson and Lewis Trowse, sixth and seventh in Tristar 1 boys; nine year old Amelia Hirst, seventh Tristar 1 girls; 12 year old Benjamin Winterburn, fifth Tristar 2 boys; 11 year-old James McCracken, 12th Tristar 2 boys; 11 year old Lydia Shenton and Eleanor Mason, sixth and eleventh Tristar 2 girls; 12 year old Sadie Spencer, tenth Tristar 2 girls; 10 year old Mia Richardson, thirteenth Tristar 2 girls; 12 year old Elias Giles, ninth Tristar 3; 14 year old Sam Monkhouse, third Tristar Youth and 12 year old Remi McVey second in the SPRINT category.
