70 year old City supporter sponsors ball
A PENSIONER who has supported Lancaster City for more than 70 years was a special guest at Giant Axe on Saturday.
Alan Davis, 82, sponsored the ball at the league match against Harrogate Railway Athletic.
The club was known as Lancaster Town when Mr Davis was first taken to Giant Axe by his father in the 1930s, and the team played on an oval pitch.
Born and bred Lancastrian Mr Davis decided to involve himself with sponsorship of the club as an individual and chose the match on Saturday to sponsor the match ball.
He and his friends and family were entertained in the club's sponsorship box during the game.
Mr Davis's son Jon said: "My father goes to the games rain or shine but recently it has been hard for him to sit outside when it's cold and so the club has let him sit in the sponsors' box.
"He wanted to give something back to the club for looking after him.
"He had a great time; he invited a couple of his friends along who have been watching the club nearly as long as he has, so they were able to talk about the old times together."
Mr Davis's special day was rounded off with a fine 3-0 win from Lancaster, with two goals from Michael Rushton and the third from Mark Jackson.
