Cash loss to our city

Morning rush hour traffic in Lancaster travelling across Skerton Bridge.
Morning rush hour traffic in Lancaster travelling across Skerton Bridge.

Months of strangulation with road works and stationary traffic, years more to come, as the county pet python makes its way through the landscape strangling everything in its way as this second rate bypass progresses towards the port.

Remember, as the County Council said in one of its early promotions: “The objective of the scheme has never been to relieve Lancaster city centre traffic”. That’s called a get-out clause, I would imagine.

Pedestrian area in Lancaster city centre inaccessible, businesses struggling to survive. Square Routes? No routes.

The city is being strangled.

I am now advised the revenue from the much vaunted park and ride for 600 vehicles at and around junction 34 (Cottam’s Farm) will go to the County Council, in effect depriving the City Council of revenue from 600 city centre parking spaces, although personally I believe 600 parking at junction 34 is another county pipe dream.

Too late to stop now as Van Morrison would say.
