As part of the course that is run by Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, the young people have to complete some voluntary work to benefit the local community.

The outside area of the community centre was looking run down and the young people have cleared and painted the area so that it looks more inviting for the residents who use the centre.

All of the paint and resources were donated by Bromborough Paints in Lancaster and Wickes in Morecambe.

Community centre manager Lisa said: “The young people have worked incredibly hard to give not only the community centre but the square a much needed face lift.

“They should be extremely proud of all that they have achieved over the two weeks. Each young person involved has shown real dedication towards the project and have supported one another throughout.”

One of the team members, Ashley Emmerson, said: “By doing the community project, not only has it shown us what we are capable of, but it has also given us the opportunity to develop new skills as well as improving on our weaknesses.

“It has also given us the sense of achievement, especially with the members of the public complementing our hard work.

“Overall, if we were able to achieve this, we can achieve anything. The only thing that will stop us from achieving anything is ourselves.”

The team programme is a 12-week personal development opportunity aimed at 16 to 25-year-olds, which aims to improve young people’s confidence and team work skills.
