Exciting times still lie ahead for Lancaster’s newest singing superstar despite his shock elimination from The X Factor.
Fans of the TV show were outraged when Paul Akister was voted off on Sunday night, missing out on a guaranteed place on next year’s lucrative X Factor arena tour.
So they have started a campaign to get Paul the spot he deserves after being unfairly ejected from the competition.
Paul’s mentor on the show, ex-Spice Girl Melanie ‘Mel B’ Brown, said it would be “a monstrosity” if the Lancastrian wasn’t allowed on the tour.
The February and March dates include visits to some of the UK’s biggest indoor entertainment arenas, such as the O2 and Wembley in London, the Manchester Arena and Liverpool Echo Arena.
While he awaits news, the former Ripley St Thomas school pupil is now back home in Lancaster and spent a relaxing day with family and friends on Tuesday after a whirlwind round of TV appearances on Monday.
Today, cameras from X Factor spin-off show The Xtra Factor will follow Paul around Lancaster, including at a special invitation-only ‘homecoming’ party at The Study Room bar.
Then our soul man will be back on the road, performing at the St Helens Christmas Lights switch-on this Saturday alongside The Lightning Seeds, Scouting For Girls and fellow X Factor contestant Lola Saunders.
Tearful Paul’s exit from the singing contest was met with an outpouring of anger on social media.
Akister received the lowest number of votes from the public after being placed in the bottom two alongside Jay James. This was despite an astonishing vocal in the sing-off as Paul sang ‘Clown’ by Emeli Sande. James gave an emotional rendition of ‘Tears In Heaven’ by Eric Clapton but it was clear Paul was superior.
It was down to the judging panel to decide between them.
Simon Cowell and Melanie ‘Mel B’ Brown gave one vote each, siding with their own acts.
Cheryl Fernandez-Versini voted for Paul and Louis Walsh then had the chance to save the Lancaster man.
But instead the Irishman voted for James, saying he couldn’t split them and wanted to hear the public’s verdict.
Host Dermot O’Leary then announced Akister was out of the competition to shocked groans in the TV audience.
