Lancaster British Heart Foundation (BHF) are appealing for volunteers to help out during the busiest time of the year.

The shop, on Cheapside, is calling for more helpers to spare some valuable time each week to help during the Christmas season.

The festive period is the busiest time of year for BHF Shops and the contribution that volunteers make is vital.

It gives volunteers the opportunity to meet new people in the local community, use their life skills, learn new ones and help make a real difference to the fight against heart disease.

The BHF has volunteers from a range of ages and backgrounds.

A BHF survey, which consisted of almost 2000 of the charities volunteers from across the UK, cited the social element of their role as being the part of their job they enjoy the most.

Ann Lomas, area manager, said: “We have thousands of volunteers who use the spare time they have since retiring to volunteer and give something back to the local community.

“We appreciate every minute people can spare to volunteer and we offer a range of opportunities which can help them find a new challenge and meet new people.” The volunteer roles on offer are, merchandising clothes, shoes and accessories to window dressing and working behind the till, to selling Christmas cards; and helping with the Christmas raffle.

Donations are also always needed to help fill shelves and shop floors to raise money.

A free collection service for donations can be booked on 0800 915 1111.
