UPDATED: Appeal for witnesses after 91-year-old hurt in M6 crash

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 91-year-old woman was seriously hurt in a collision between a lorry and car.

The incident occurred at junction 34 northbound near Lancaster on Friday at 5.40pm when a DAF HVG truck and a Citroen Synergie car collided in lane two.

The car veered into the central reservation and then back across the three lanes into the nearside barrier.

The driver and front seat passenger of the car suffered minor injuries. A 91-year-old passenger in the rear of the car suffered serious injuries and was taken to Royal Lancaster Infirmary with a suspected fractured sternum, ribs and injury to her right foot.

One lane was shut for four hours while police dealt with the incident, causing long tailbacks.

PS Finn Quainton of the Road Policing Team said: “It was a busy time of the evening when this collision occurred so I would urge any motorists who may have witnessed the collision to contact us with any information they may have that could help us to establish exactly how the collision occurred and to help us with our enquiries.”
