Plans for a building at the University of Cumbria’s Lancaster site to be demolished and replaced with a new teaching block are to be discussed at the city council’s planning meeting on Monday.
This is a full application for partial demolition and extension of an existing structure (known as the Asquith Building), and the construction of a new teaching ‘hub’, along with associated landscaping.
The works form the first phase of wider transformation of the Lancaster Campus. The wider Campus Masterplan has not yet been formally submitted as a planning application, but the current proposal for a single teaching block can be considered in advance of any widermasterplanning proposals.
The new building will accommodate a lecture theatre and 2 flexible teaching rooms on the ground floor, along with an open foyer and learning zone. The first floor has similar teaching facilities, whilst the upper floor provides six teaching spaces.
