A CHILDREN’S home in Over Kellet will be expanded to house three additional children and permanent staff, despite objections by the parish council.
The Old Vicarage on The Green has housed six youngsters aged between 11 and 16 since April 2011 – a level of service which did not need planning approval.
But the increase proposed by applicant the Witherslack Group to accommodate nine children and up to four employees on a 24/7 staff basis required permission for a change of use.
It will involve the use of the neighbouring Ostle Cottage and a total of 18 staff will be employed at the property.
Over Kellet Parish Council complained that the development would now be larger than it had been led to believe and would be too large for the location, resulting in increased traffic.
