Three talented Lancaster and Morecambe acts get set to compete in the Charity Challenge final at The Grand Theatre this weekend.

The annual event, organised by Furness Building Society, will see 14 acts competing on behalf of their chosen charities for a share of more than £3,000 in cash prizes on Saturday night.

The Twins Appeal, supported by the Lancaster Guardian, is hoping for a big win to boost the fund aiming to raise £85,000 to pay for life-changing treatment in America for disabled twins Katie and Emma Sutcliffe.

Competing on their behalf is the Revelations Juniors gymnastics dance group aiming to maintain the success from last year’s final when the senior dance group was one of the big winners.

This year a new generation of even younger dancers is competing to raise money for the operation.

Most of the Revelations Juniors are aged between 6 and 11, and they include two boys among the 16 dancers and gymnasts from Lancaster and Morecambe.

Cara Hughes, 14, from Morecambe is singing on behalf of her local Stanley Youth and Community Centre, accompanied on guitar by youth leader Lauren Lindsey. The centre is part of the Lancashire Association of Boys and Girls Clubs which has 40 affiliated clubs throughout the county.

And Danielle Holmes, 18, from Carnforth is also putting her singing talent to the test on behalf of Genesis Breast Cancer Prevention Centre at Wythenshawe Hospital in Manchester.

A student at Lancaster and Morecambe College, Danielle chose the charity because a member of her family has benefited from their help, so it is a cause close to her heart.

Videos of all of the finalists can be seen at www.furnessbs.co.uk/charitychallenge The finalists will compete for prizes of £1,000 for first place, £750 for second place, and £500 for third place, with £100 for each of the other finalists so that all of the charities represented on stage will benefit. The Charity Challenge final starts at 7.00pm.

Tickets are £5 each or £15 for a family ticket of 4 and available through Lancaster Grand Theatre box office tel 01524 64695 or by visiting www.lancastergrand.co.uk.
