A student from Lancaster who wrote a blog about feminism’s role in contemporary film and television has been invited to Chicago to speak about her research.
Chloe Campbell, 21, a former Garstang High School and Lancaster Girls’ Grammar School student, wrote about the cult show Buffy the Vampire Slayer, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar and the portrayal of women in the show.
Now Chloe , a student at the University of Sunderland, is jetting off to an American conference in June to discuss whether the show was portraying a feminist message or not. She said: “The cultural assumption that feminists are man-hating, butch and hairy is challenged by the feminine, heterosexual feminist of Buffy.
It is such a privilege to be discussing my article.”
