Pedestrians and vehicles had a near miss when masonry from a chimney stack in Church Street plummeted to the ground.
Police and fire crews were called to the scene near The Study Room and Banks Lyon jewellers in Lancaster at 2pm.
Passers by and a taxi narrowly escaped being hit by the falling stone.
An aerial ladder platform was also called to the incident to remove part of the chimney structure from the roof.
Lancaster City Council’s building control officer asked for the area to be secured and firefighters left the site at just after 4.30pm last Thursday, two and a half hours after the incident.
