A MUSICIAN who has performed with Ringo Starr, The Waterboys and Neil Young’s band Crazy Horse, as well as penning the wedding theme for TV’s Gavin and Stacey, heads to Lancaster this month.
Liverpudlian Ian McNabb formed the Icicle Works in 1981, and between 1983 and 1989 had five hit albums and hit singles in the UK, Canada and US with Birds Fly and Love Is A Wonderful Colour (Gavin and Stacey’s wedding song).
Ian’s solo career included a Mercury Prize nomination for 1994’s album Head Like A Rock, which was recorded with Crazy Horse.
His 1998 album, A Party Political Broadcast On Behalf Of The Emotional Party featured Mike Scott (Waterboys) and Danny Thompson (Pentangle, John Martyn), and he has also played bass for Mike Scott’s band and for Ringo Starr’s All Starr Band.
In 2005, Ian had a UK Top 40 single, Let The Young Girl Do What She Wants To, and his critically acclaimed latest album Great Things is available via his website www.ianmcnabb.com.
On top of that he has recently completed a sold out UK tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Icicle Works.
I’m sure you’ll agree that this is a pretty solid run of things by all accounts, and Ian has now confirmed a much more intimate performance at the Yorkshire House on October 22.
