A Lancaster care provider has been rated ‘good’ following a recent inspection.

Burrowbeck Community Care, based in Scotforth Road, received a clean bill of health following an unnanounced Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection in March this year.

Inspectors found the care being provided was safe, well-led, effective, caring and responsive.

The company’s registered manager said she was “delighted” with the result.

Burrowbeck provides home care services for 61 adults in the Lancaster district, including people with dementia and mental health problems.

The inspection found that people spoke positively about the quality of service provision on offer, and that staffing levels were conducive to meet their needs. However, staff punctuality was sometimes a concern.

Arrangements were in place to protect people from risk of abuse, and people told inspectors they felt safe and secure.

Staff had a knowledge of safeguarding procedures and were aware of their responsibilities for reporting any concerns.

Staff retention was good and people said they benefited from staff who knew them well.

Suitable arrangements were in place for managing and administering medicines. People were encouraged to self-administer medicines where appropriate. Risks of self-administration were managed and the registered provider encouraged people to live active lives within their community.

Joanne Tyson, registered manager, said: “We are understandably delighted with the recent CQC report about the domiciliary service provided to our clients within the local area.

“This good result further proves the dedication of our staff in providing quality, person centred care. We recognise that our focus must always be on the people we support, their needs, wishes and aspirations.”
