THE leaders of two of the district’s cancer care providers say that clients will not be affected by recent job cuts.
Six part-time posts have been lost at Cancercare, while one senior post has been axed at St John’s Hospice in recent months, but both charities, which are entirely separate organisations, say the changes put them in a stronger position for the future, despite the tough economic climate.
Peter Hearne, general manager at CancerCare, said that two “small, underused services” – Yoga and social day care – will also be dropped.
Mr Hearne, who will be retiring from CancerCare in June after eight years at the helm said: “Everyone using CancerCare’s services, or needing its support, will continue to be helped in the most appropriate way.
