A SOLDIER from Morecambe is helping raise money for injured soldiers through a half marathon this weekend.

Lance Cpl Nick Unsworth, who lives in Hall Drive when he is not stationed at Catterick Barracks, has helped to co-ordinate three of his fellow soldiers in the Duke of Lancaster Regiment to run in the Liverpool half marathon event this Sunday.

The trio will be dressed in their army uniform and carrying a full 35lb backpack for the duration of the 13 miles.

All money raised will go towards the Duke of Lancaster Injured Soldiers Fund, which supports soldiers and their families following serious injuries.

Lance Cpl Unsworth, who has been in the Army for six years and recently returned from a seven-month stint in Afghanistan, said the group have already raised £900 thanks to the generosity of local businesses.
