SOLDIERS from the Lancaster district are putting months of training into practice out in Afghanistan.

Pte Anthony Reid, 26, from Lancaster and Pte Aaron Dodds, 28, from Heysham, were deployed to Camp Bastion last weekend.

Nineteen soldiers, from 159 Supply Regiment, part of the Territorial Army, are providing logistical support to theatre troops by moving, storing, maintaining and issuing every item required by the Army.

Pte Dodds, who went to Our Lady’s High School in Lancaster, said: “We’ve been doing a lot of fitness training.

“The heat in Afghanistan takes a lot out of you, and the altitude.” Speaking of his wife and two young children, he said: “Obviously I’m going to miss them quite a lot when I’m away but I’m still looking forward to the experience of doing my bit.”
