Skerton councillors in day centre plea

COUNCILLORS in Skerton are pressing for a rethink over the county council’s decision to close the Luneside Centre in Pinfold Lane.

Evening users of the centre were given short notice that the centre would be closing tomorrow, Friday, after the county council announced it would be moving daytime users to the newly refurbished Thorpe View Day Centre in Morecambe.

The Luneside Centre caters for adults with physical disabilities, but also provides meeting space for community groups such as Arthiritis Lancaster, Lancaster Stroke Club, Good Companions, and the Lancaster and District Homebound Fellowship, during the evening.

Some of the groups had been meeting at the centre free of charge for more than 20 years.
