FEMALE vocals prevail this week in Lancaster with a new album release, a trio of Scandinavian pop ravers, and smooth jazz with one of the city's finest voices.
First off, Get It Loud in Libraries kickstarts its new season at Lancaster library on Sunday night with a "super cool all-girl trio of pop ravers".
Le Corps Mince de Francoise (The Slim Body of Francoise) are hotly tipped to set the music world alight with the release of their debut single 'Bitch of the Bitches', out today on the Stimulus/ Relentless label.
The upbeat electro pop band, from Helsinki, Finland, deliver underground, beat driven, punky electronica with a strong underlying pop melody with peers such as CSS, The Knife and Robyn.
Tickets are 6, doors open 7.30pm. Support comes from Defend Moscow.
Hailed as the best band in the north west in a recent BT Battle of The Bands competition, Lancaster's Heroes of She go on tour this weekend, coinciding with the release of their new album Never Going Home.
With a warm up gig at the Penny Bank last night, Thursday, the band, fronted by vocalists Amy Worth and Helen Longworth, play various venues in Manchester and London over the next three weeks.
James Mackie, Hammond organ player with the band, said: "We can't wait to tour. When we launched our single, Don't Love Me, in The Round at The Dukes, the venue sold out and we heard that bar takings were the highest they'd ever been in the theatre's history!"
And on Monday night, sultry singing sensation Sue Parish will appear at the Robert Gillow in Market Street with pianist Eileen Guppy and bassist Nick Blacka. Eileen is jazz tutor at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester.
The trio will perform some of their "party pieces" including one or two intriguing rarities. Music starts at 9pm and entry is free.
