A 23-year-old man who died after being hit by a train near Lancaster has been named.
Michael Towers, from Warton, was pronounced dead at the scene following the collision between Yealand and Burton-in-Kendal close to Cinderbarrow Lane on Monday, May 19.
A spokesman for British Transport Police (BTP) said officers were called to the West Coast Main Line following reports of a person hit by a train.
He said: “Officers from British Transport Police and Lancashire Constabulary attended the incident, which was reported to BTP at 10.29pm and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.
“Medics from the North West Ambulance Service also attended but a 23-year-old man from the local area was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The man’s family has been informed.
“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
Preston Coroner’s Court confirmed that an inquest would be opened and adjourned in due course.
