Train travellers faced major delays today due to flooding on the railway line.
No trains were running for much of the day from Preston to Carlisle due to flooding on the line between Oxenholme Lake District and Penrith.
A spokesman for National Rail said the disruption was likely to continue until at least 4.30pm.
The disruption effects Virgin Trains between Birmingham New Street and London Euston and Glasgow Central and Edinburgh, and also impacts First TransPennine Express services between Manchester Airport and Glasgow Central and Edinburgh.
The spokesman urged travellers to check their journey.
He said: “An obstruction on the line between Oxenholme Lake District and Penrith means trains are currently unable to run between Preston and Carlisle.
“There is no firm estimate yet of how long disruption will last but it is likely to continue until at least 16:30.
