AROUND 100 people marched through Lancaster city centre on Saturday in protest against the remarks of a Canadian police officer about sexual assault and the way women dress.

Organised by Lancaster University students Eleanor Best, Kate Fitzhenry and Elizabeth Lee Reynolds, ‘SlutWalk’ started from Thurnham Street and continued down Penny Street and James Street before circling back around to Great John Street and finishing at Dalton Square.

Similar ‘SlutWalk’ events have been held across Canada, the USA, Australia, New Zealand and Europe following the comments made by a Toronto police officer.

The officer, who was giving a talk to students about personal safety, later apologised for his remarks.
