Planning permission has been granted for two new housing developments in the city.

At a planning and highways committee meeting on Monday, councillors approved plans for 71 new homes at Lancaster Leisure Park, in Wyresdale Road, subject to the signing of a legal agreement.

The application, from Miller Homes, includes two one-bed flats, ten two-bed flats, six two-bed houses, 19 three-bed houses, 27 four-bed houses and seven five bed-houses.

Permission was also granted for a new housing development on land between The Giant Axe football ground and Longmarsh Lane in Lancaster.

One Longmarsh Lane resident who attended the meeting said however that councillors accepted the plans – submitted by Adactus Housing for 18 one bedroom flats –without a traffic report.

She said: “It was barely advertised locally, with just one notice on a lamppost.

“It’s not the right kind of development for this area, and there wasn’t even a traffic report. Basically I felt ignored at the meeting.”
