FORMER Conservative MP Michael Portillo was in Lancaster this week to film an instalment of his BBC TV show, Great British Railway Journeys.

Mr Portillo is believed to have filmed scenes at Lancaster Station following his arrival in the city on Tuesday evening.

The TV cameras then filmed him in the city centre the following morning.

The BBC was this week staying tight-lipped about the content of the episode, which will be screened next January.

Among those to happen upon Mr Portillo during his visit, was John Atkinson, a photographer and assistant at the Lancaster Visitor Information Centre, who met him in Market Square.
