Planners vote through ‘homes at hotel’ scheme in Silverdale

Planners have given permission for two semi-detached homes to be built next to a Silverdale pub.

They will be put next door to the Royal Hotel, on Emesgate Lane, which has been closed for the past two years.

At a meeting of Lancaster City Council’s planning committee today, councillors approved the application submitted by local businessman Michael Holgate.

But some residents spoke in opposition, fearing it would mean the pub itself could eventually be converted into homes and that the village would lose a local amenity which could, when the economy improves, reopen.

The meeting heard the developer was considering the future of the hotel but that they felt the housing development would not impact on the operation of the premises.
