AN exploration of landscape and memory this week kicked off the autumn season of exhibitions at The Dukes Gallery in Lancaster.
Peninsula is a combination of the talents of painter and printmaker, John M Morrison from Blackpool and poet Ron Scowcroft from Garstang.
John, the former head of art at Blackpool Sixth Form College and artist in residence at the University of Central Lancashire’s printmaking department in Preston, was voted 2009 Artists Access to Art Colleges artist of the year.
Ron, a nationally published poet and recent guest at the Preston Tringe Festival, is a regular reader on the Lancaster arts scene.
A PhD from Lancaster University, he was short-listed last year for the prestigious Templar Pamphlet prize.
The pair met while teaching at Blackpool Sixth Form College more than 15 years ago.
Now both retired, this is their first exhibition together and also their Lancaster debut. It is the culmination of five years’ work.
Jon discovered both he and Ron, a former head of literature, were working on similar themes and the pair decided to collaborate.
Ron’s poem, Peninsula, provided the inspiration for John’s work.
