Two people were rescued after a camper van came off the motorway.

Emergency services were called to the M6 southbound between junctions 33 to 32 at around 3.20pm on Sunday after a camper van left the carriageway.

A man was taken by air ambulance to Royal Preston Hospital, while a woman was taken by ambulance.

Both are from the Holmfirth area in West Yorkshire.

A spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: “It looked like the camper van had tumbled a few times and ended up in a field.

“By the time we got there the male was in the back of the van and the female was in the cab.

“The vehicle was in some degree of destruction and our concern was to stabilise it. There were enough holes already to extricate the people.

“We worked with the paramedics and air ambulance and got them to safety.”
