Two of our district’s parks have been recognised with a coveted Green Flag award.
Happy Mount Park in Morecambe and Williamson Park in Lancaster have received the national award handed out by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy, which rewards the best parks and green spaces across the country.
A Green Flag flying overhead is a sign to visitors that the park boasts the highest possible standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent facilities.
Williamson Park has also be awarded special Green Heritage status for the fourth year in a row. This recognises the excellent upkeep of parks that are of historical and cultural interest. Councillor David Smith, Lancaster City Council Cabinet member for parks said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive these awards. It is an incredible achievement and recognises that local people and visitors are benefiting from green spaces of the very highest quality.
“My thanks go out to the Friends groups and erks are maintained to a very high standard, for the enjoyment and benefit of the community.”
Both parks benefit from the work of volunteer Friends groups. If you would like to contribute towards the upkeep of your local park and join a Friends group visit www.lancaster.gov.uk/takepride.
