After a hard fought election campaign I am pleased to be resuming my column for the Lancaster Guardian as the Member of Parliament for Morecambe and Lunesdale.
I would like to start by thanking all of my constituents who put their faith in me for a second term and voted for me on Thursday.
I was delighted to have increased my majority to 4,590 and become the only serving Member of Parliament for Morecambe and Lunesdale to increase their majority.
My campaign was run on a positive message for the area of further regeneration, I truly believe this area is on the up and with the Link Road well on the way to being built there will be more and more investment opportunities for the area.
One of the main projects I will be working on in the coming months is the tunnel under the bay proposal.
Lancashire County Council have been awarded money for a feasibility study, which means the project could start to take shape and we could have an idea what the proposed route and plan would look like in practice.
During the campaign I was honoured to be able to welcome colleagues from all departments to help, the visit from the Chancellor and the Prime Minister to the building of the M6 Link road being a particular highlight.
I was honoured to show off the excellence of businesses in our area to my colleagues in the cabinet, from John Wild’s fantastic fish and chips in Heysham, to the brilliant businesses in Bare, Heritage Homecare which excels in personal care and Lingwoods security in Heysham who are winning national contracts.
My office is now open fully after the election campaign and all of the MP’s hotlines and departments are now accessible again.
