Neil Marshall column: We couldn’t have had anymore bad luck

I don’t think we could possibly have anymore bad luck this season.

We went ahead early on Saturday against New Mills until they had a corner which directly hit the bar and fell straight into the path of one of their players to equalise.

They then scored again soon after which left us 2-1 down at half-time.

The second half I thought we totally dominated but just couldn’t get the equaliser which we fully deserved.

With a game coming a few days later we had to pick ourselves up but we still had confidence going into the Clitheroe game because of the way we performed in the second half.

Against Clitheroe we started where we left off and had the better chances in the first half and could count ourselves unlucky not to be going in at half-time ahead.

The second half was a carbon copy of the first and we did everything we could to get the winning goal with a goalmouth scramble in which we had three efforts cleared off the line as well as hitting the post.

This was only the start of our bad luck as in the 88th minute they broke and put a ball in the box which the unfortunate Danny Gregson headed past our keeper.

The least we deserved was a clean sheet and a draw but we got neither.

Even so, we can be happy with the way we performed this weekend against two teams who are pushing for play-off places.

I think if the new manager can add a couple of quality players over the summer, added to the squad that we already have, we can give it a good go at the play-offs next year.
