Great to drive down the M6 link road

The other Monday I was pleased to be asked to officially open the new training and practice facilities at Heysham Golf Club.

The facility is an asset to the club and I was pleased to see the project completed after seeing the plans when the £50,000 Sport England grant was announced.

At the open day I was struck by how many people of different ages were there and participating in the workshop and was pleased to watch a demonstration by Gary Wolstenholme on how it should be done.

On Wednesday I was in the chamber to participate in a debate on nursing bursaries.

It is vital we act so more places are opened up on nursing courses to plug the skills gap we currently have in this country.

On Friday I visited Michael Glen and his team at PHX Training in Morecambe to see for myself the amazing work they do to give job seekers the skills they need to submit a job application and deal with basic ICT.

It is easy to forget that not everyone has skills in ICT and not having those skills can be a huge barrier to employment. I was really impressed with the work PHX were carrying out to give people in Morecambe the skills they need to gain employment.

The highlight of my week, however, was meeting Anthony Crowley from Costain and being driven down the length of the new M6 Link Road.

It was fantastic to see how the road is now taking shape for its opening in September/October and I was struck by how quickly you will be able to get from the M6 to Torrisholme.

I think it is easy sometimes to be complacent about the high impact the road will have on the area and seeing the road as a full route this far along the process really made me feel proud of the work that went into securing funding for such a huge project.
