Fitness Formation column: Obstacle course will teach you all about art of survival

There are a lot of local residents taking on new challenges this summer.

The craze seems to be military-style muddy obstacle courses much like the one Team Fitness Formation took on at the start of this month – Total Warrior.

Well they are at it again, only this time they are taking on a one-of-a-kind event which is making its debut this September, known as Born Survivor. It is a 10k obstacle course at Lowther Castle in the Lake District on September 21.

It goes without saying that doing an event such as this is obviously physically challenging.

It is set up, designed and organised by ex-Royal Marines.

It definitely isn’t a stroll in the park.

However, saying that, if you have a good base level of fitness and you’re not afraid to get a little muddy, you can do it.

Everyone can and I firmly believe we should all do an event like this. Step out of your comfort zone, break through your self-limiting beliefs, believe in the team around you and most of all, believe in yourself.

Go into this, or anything in life, with a never die, unbreakable attitude and you can’t lose. Face your fears, overcome them and you’ll cross the finish line a completely different person.

The real triumph and accomplishment comes from working together with your team and fellow survivors.

For the most part, events such as this are not about beating one another to the finish – it’s more about working together, overcoming obstacles and challenges as a unit where no-one is left behind. Much like the military.

You don’t see acts of selflessness like you will at events like this anywhere, no matter what you do.

We will be writing more about how Team Fitness Formation are getting on in training in the coming weeks.
