Today, Thursday, I will be unveiling a plaque at Heysham Power Station which commemorates the opening of the new visitors centre. It is hoped the new centre will give young people and more generally the community the opportunity to learn about the work that is done at Heysham.
Also on Thursday I am looking forward to presenting the Far Pavilion restaurant with their certificate for coming highly commended in the Newby Teas Tiffin Cup competition. The competition is organised by Keith Vaz MP and highlights restaurants who serve South East Asian cuisine.
One of our local serving members of the armed forces Scott Farmer will be running from Scarborough Pier to the Eric Morecambe Statue later this year which is a total of 123 miles.
If you’d like to sponsor Scott, who is raising funds for Help For Heroes, please take a look at his website. http://www.bmycharity.com/scottfarmer.
Last week I voted in favour of a referendum on the UK’s membership of the European Union. You may or may not know that the last time we had a vote on Europe was in 1975.
Over the years, what we now know as the European Union has grown dramatically from an organisation that monitored the supply of coal and steel to its current incarnation which is an organisation that puts red tape in the way of almost every aspect of our life.
I highlighted recently that the EU even tried to ban olive oil dipping bowls which for me was one piece of red tape too far.
I have also tabled my own Parliamentary motion in support of an EU Referendum to give our community the opportunity to decide.
Over the summer, I will be again organising a summer tour, please keep checking my website for details of where I will be and when.
Also please take a look at my website to signup for my e-newsletter which is delivered via e-mail.
