It was a pleasure to welcome hundreds of motorcycle riders to Arkholme on Saturday night. They had ridden from Wales as part of the Thankful Villages motorcycle ride.

The riders were raising money for the Royal British Legion by riding into 51 villages who did not lose anyone during the First World War 1914-1918. Arkholme sent 59 people and 59 returned. The ride also passed through Nether Kellet. The organisers hope to raise £51,000 for the Royal British Legion.

It was a marvelous event at Docker Park Farm with traditional wartime music, inter village games and a party atmosphere.

I think the bikers doing this ride give younger generations the opportunity to reflect on the service given by previous generations in defence of our country, but it also gives each and every one of us the opportunity to keep in our contemplations those currently serving in the armed forces here and overseas.

The bikers then continued their charity ride on Sunday morning to the village in Wales that they started from in July.

I hope that you will have read in recent weeks that I am having a summer tour. My tour will take me all over the constituency and I hope to meet as many people as possible.

On Monday August 19, I will have an advice surgery at Tesco in Carnforth, then there will be meet your MP events at the George Washington pub in Warton, Silverdale Post Office, the Silverdale Hotel and an advice surgery at Silverdale Library. The day ends with a meet your MP event at Over Kellet Village Hall.

On Tuesday August 20 I will join the mobile library at the Memorial Hall at Slyne-with-Hes,t then hold a meet your MP event at the Royal Hotel in Bolton-le-Sands followed by one at Morecambe and Lunesdale Conservative Association in Bare.

Before I finish this week’s column, I’d like to thank the large number of parents from Skerton High School who have written to me. As I said last week I will campaign against the school’s closure.
