It was fantastic to see Eric back where he belongs on the promenade last Thursday.

Even though the weather was not brilliant it was great to see a crowd gathered to see Eric back on the promenade and also to greet his family.

On Thursday I welcomed Under Secretary of a State for Health Dr Dan Poulter MP to the area to visit both the Same Day Health Centre in Morecambe and the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

At the Royal Lancaster Infirmary we visited A&E and saw how waiting times were falling and the new improvements in the triage sections.

Dr Dan Poulter was impressed at the Trust’s resilience work to alleviate winter pressures in the A&E department.

We were then taken to the Maternity Unit visiting both the delivery suite and Ward 17.

It was especially interesting for Minister Poulter as he is a qualified Obstetrics and Gynecology Consultant and still conducts clinics in the NHS.

I Know Minister Poulter was extremely impressed by the professionalism of the staff and their dedication to delivering high quality care.

I am immensely proud of all of the staff who work tirelessly to treat patients at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

On Friday I also visited Our Ladies Catholic College and met with Head Teacher Brendan Conboy.

The recent results at the School speak for themselves and OLCC is becoming a centre of excellence for teaching in the area.

I was extremely impressed by Brendan’s attitude that no child should be left behind and that every child should be nurtured to achieve their full potential.

I was shown round the School by Mr Conboy who knew all of the children by name.

I was extremely impressed by the teaching at the School and the safe environment the School provided.
