AN ELDERLY woman has been left fighting for her life after a blaze at her city home.
The woman, believed to be aged around 70, had to be resuscitated by firefighters using oxygen after they found her collapsed on the landing of the mid-terrace property on Railway Street just after 11.35am this morning.
Paramedics rushed her to the nearby Royal Lancaster Infirmary, where fire crews were this afternoon told by police that she was in a critical conditon in intensive care having suffered smoke inhalation.
The fire caused serious damage to the woman’s bedroom, but did not spread to other rooms.
The cause of the blaze is under investigation but there are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances.
Police closed Railway Street while the incident was ongoing.
